The 'explanation' provided by Nikon is totally and completely wrong. My reasons for CNX-D are similar to your own. I am running CNX-D, CNX2 and VNX2 on Win 10 without problem. I didn't really believe the statement from the Nikon rep re: Win 10 support as it seemed illogical. All the items that belong Capture NX-D that have been left behind will be found and you will be asked if you want to delete them.
